Today some teachers from Tamaki collage came to visit the Panmure Bridge school seniors to give out the certificates for the seniors who went to tech and science. For science we had to make a rover that would go at least 3 meters long.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Student leader Nomination
I am the perfect choice for the 2016 sports leader because of my love for sports and participation in everything I can. I am confident and encourage all students. I try my best to respect the rules, have a positive attitude, show confidence, and strive to do my best, making me a fit role model for our younger students. In all games, I follow instructions and make sure my team mates do as well. I look at all sports with a smile because I've been participating in them at every chance I get. I can show confidence when representing our school, attempt to do my best, and try to set a positive example for others to follow. The most important key to being a leader is encouraging others, lead by example and that is something I can do. I am supportive towards others, not only my friends and classmates, but students from other classes. Being a leader means I have to take of a lot of responsibilities, but I am ready. I will also be a fun leader, it’s not all about being serious. I will make sure others enjoy the sport, and face every challenge with a smile. Anything that involves sports, I will volunteer to do and participate in. I promise to try my best to do what I can to become a great leader, and fill the shoes of Samantha and Shantay. I am committed to becoming a leader and hope that I can be given the chance to prove myself in this important school role.
Student leader nomination has been done. The year 7's from room 5 and 6 were called in room 5 to nominate people for the student school leader in 2016. I was nominated for sports leader and i was very proud of my self because my main aim for this year was to become a sports leader and i have an opportunity to be what i want to be . Mrs Anderson told us to persuade others by write a paragraph telling why you should be the best choice to be picked for a school leader.

What is Problem solving
What is problem solving? Does it only happen in Maths?
Problem solving is when you are trying to solve a question .You can use problem solving anywhere. You can do it while doing shopping, figuring what time it is until your late for school and at the airport if you don’t know what time your plane leaves. Problem solving is not just about using numbers. You can use problem solving when u are trying to find out complicated problems for example: You forget where you put your priceless watch and you don’t know where it is, you have to remember where was the last time you had it. People use them in maths problems like using different strategies to figure out the answer. There are so many different strategies to use.
Today for writing in room 5 we talked about What is Problem solving. We went around the room and each went to a different partner and talked about what is problem solving. Then we were told to make a paragraph about what is problem solving and does it only happen in maths in. After that we had to get a partner and have a look at their work and comment on it.

Choosing a new flag
Today room 5 have been talking about choosing a new flag. In the morning room 5 had a look at each flag to see which one was our favorite. We chose our best one and went around the room and told our idea of what flag we liked the most and gave a reason why for oral language (4-3-2-1). We did this so we can share each others ideas about the other flags and see which one they thought they liked. After that we went to the new class rooms and we got a token and we were told we were only allowed to put that token into one of the buckets. The buckets each represented one of the flags so if we put our token in the Koru flag bucket, that means you voted for the Koru flag.

Basketball
Today Rm 5 had basketball today. Coach Mark and Millie taught us a bunch of skills and tips to use while play
ing basket ball, here are all the skills and tips. First is the pivot, the pivot is when you can take two steps and the first step you take you can't let it move up when your other foot comes down, and you can twist around to avoid getting the ball taken of of you. But you still have to keep your first foot on the ground. Stance is when you sit down in the air like you are sitting on a chair and put your hands up below your chin. Next we practiced dribbling, dribbling is just bouncing with your finger tips and dribbling in front of you. We also learnt how to cup the ball.

Maths Problem DLO
Halatoa ate twice as many pancakes as Sebastian at lunchtime. Sebastian had another 3 pancakes for afternoon tea. Altogether they ate 18 pancakes. How many pancakes did Halatoa eat?
There are 18 pancakes.
So since Halatoa has twice as much as Sebastian, Sebastisn gets 5 and Halatoa gets 10.
10+5=15
Sebastian also eats another 3.
15+3=18
so that means Halatoa ate 10 pancakes and Sebastian ate 8 pancakes

Swap in pairs
Today in writing we did a story swap in pairs to write recount that made sense. We had to write a sentence each and it was a bit challenging. We weren't allowed to speak so it was difficult to talk to my partner. My partner was San Tat. I learned that if you re-read your story again you can find mistakes and fix them.
I was walking down the road to go to my great aunt's grave. I felt like something was watching me. I saw old house sitting on top of a lumpy hill. So i went closer to the house as i see the house getting larger and larger.I open the door and every step i took i could her a creaking noises beneath me. I hear creepy footsteps behind me, and i see stairs so i quickly run up the stairs and see a long hallway. All of a sudden the lights start’s flickering on and of. I see this mysterious room with a big closet just sitting in the middle of the room. I went into the room to see what was inside. I opened it and one big giant ghost was staring at me. It did not hurt me it did not harm me. I recognized this face somewhere. Then i got a big shock and realized it was my great aunty. I had so many questions to ask her but as i blinked my eyes she disappeared.

Holiday Reading Challenge: Make a Recommendation
Make a Recommendation
Title: Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge
Author: Dav Pilkey
Type of book: Fiction
I would recommend this book to people 8+ because it is about two kids making their own comics which comes to life. One of their worst teachers become one of their comic superhero. This book has a lot of action and is really funny. At the start there were two guys named George and Harold who decided to make their own comics. They hypnotized their teacher and told him to act like the superhero in their comic. They snapped their finger and their teacher thought he was Captain Underpants. They found a UFO and there was this super juice which made people get powers. He drank the super drink and got super powers. After that he fights crime and saves people. The only way to get back to normal is to get knocked out. But the only thing is when someone snaps their finger he will turn back into Captain Underpants. I recommend this book to people who love action and comedy.

Good Morning Everyone. School Uniforms or not? Do you think we should be allowed to wear what we want to school? I think it is better to wear a school uniform for many reasons. A school uniform is very important to show what school you come from. A uniform seperates you from every other school by the colour it is and the school emblem that it shows.
If the children were in uniform it would be much easier to find everyone and keep them together. Wearing a school uniform also means that everyone looks the same and it looks very smart. It makes it very easy to get up in the morning and know what you will be wearing. If there was no uniform you would take longer to get ready and will be harder to find different clothes to wear every day. This can be really expensive for parents too because of all the different clothes they will have to buy for their children to wear to school.
So it saves money to have a school uniform. If there was no uniform some families could afford to buy the latest clothes for their children but some may not have enough money to buy the coolest shoes or clothes. Children might get bullied or teased for not wearing the latest shoes or clothes. If schools had uniforms everybody looks the same so this wouldnt be a problem. Some children have parents, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunties, uncles or even grandparents that have been to the same school. It is a pretty cool idea to think that they have worn the same uniform and colours too. It is like a family tradition.
I played for our rugby league team this year and I was proud to wear our school colours in the primary schools league tournament. They were really cool uniforms and it made us look really good. For all of these reasons I think wearing a school uniform is good. I feel proud when I wear my uniform with all my classmates and the rest of the school. It makes me feel like we are part of one giant team.

We were called up to the start of race. Mrs Kirkpatrick told us the way to go from the start to the end. Mrs Kirkpatrick said "ON YOUR MARKS GET SET GO!!" I sprinted off and I was in the lead we went across rocky pathway. Then we went up the hill and I was keeping my pace and I was still in the lead. We went down the hill and came across where there were heaps of trees and mud everywhere. Then we had to go and run down to Mrs Millward and run around her and went back the way where I just came from . I was still in the lead. I was so close to the finish line and I could feel victory. I saw a year 7 girl still running to the finish line to come second. And I just sprinted and raced passed her like a flying jet plane and I beat her and I came first. I was so proud of myself and so was relieved that i have completed the course. Gozan came second and Thomas came third. After that Every one was so happy. And everyone went back to school to calm down and have a rest.

“Hi Manu, do you think we should provide breakfast For Nz schools?” asked Zahn.
“No!” gasped Manu.
“Why do you think that?” wonderd Zahn.
“Because parents should be responsible for their own kids breakfast.”
“Good idea but i think that we should provide breakfast for Nz Schools.”
“Why do you think that?”
Thought Manu
“How would you feel if came to school without breakfast, starving and all you are thinking about is food?”
Questioned Zahn.
“Wow i like that idea as well.”
And people need energy to participate and contribute. Also it makes kids want to take part in activities and keeps kids focused in their learning.
Wow, we both have really good solution
Replied Manu.
“Yeah!”
Laughed Zahn.
“But i still think we shouldn’t provide breakfast because Teachers shouldn’t be paying us kids to be having breakfast every morning. They can spend the money on more usefall things like P.E equipment.”
“Good idea”
